Board examination workshop

Unique opportunity

Student dental assistants who do not have a National Certificate in Dental Assisting or another recognized qualification, but have worked in a dental practice and have gained practical experience, now have the once-off opportunity to register as a Student Dental Assistant (S-DA) with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).

Final registration as a Dental Assistant (DA) is dependent on successful completion of a Board Examination within two years of registration as S-DA. Dental Assistants wishing to register must do so before 6 October 2017.

Board Examination

Board examinations for 2017 takes place on 20 June, 22 August and 21 November. The closing date for applications is about one month prior to the examination.

S-DA’s should allow at least 40 hours to prepare for the examination.

Preparation for exam

Focus on Health presents a one-day workshop to assist S-DA’s in preparing for the examination. The workshop is presented by a former lecturer whom is currently practising as oral hygienist.

During the workshop the HPCSA “Preparation Guide” is reviewed and all necessary documentation handed out; such as booklets on Ethical guidelines and Record keeping.

Previous examination papers are reviewed and interaction between students facilitates understanding of learning material.

Workshops – When and where

Workshops will take place on Wednesdays (late afternoon till 9pm) and Saturdays (9am – 4pm).

Student numbers will determine how often and where workshops will be held.
